Alright, this is gonna be my first REAL review here for Throwback Thursday. And it just so happens to be a review of one of my favorite albums of all time as well as the first hip hop cd I ever owned. I got this album when I was in 7th grade (granted its not the most postive music for a 7th grader) and I listened to it literally non-stop on my walkman portable cd player...lol.
Bone Thugs were discovered by Eazy-E (and for those of you who dont know who Eazy was just go ahead and click the red X in the top right hand corner) who also executive produced the album which was their first full length record released on July 25, 1995, following the triple platinum EP release "Creepin on ah Come up".
The thing I really loved about Bone's sound was it was unique, harmonious and melodic with fast flipped rhymes. Their sound was their own, there were others like Twista flippin bars quick but he didnt have the harmony that Bone possessed. This is definitely an album for the REAL head, being they rhyme so fast most casual listeners might not be able to understand the lyrics (you might try somethin more elementary like waka or gucci mane).
This album contains the anthem "1st of Tha Month" which anyone who has ever heard a single rap track in their life knows, and is still classic to this day. Favorite tracks are: all of them! I'm not a big fan of the ouija mystic stuff but other than that this is an album you can ride out to beginning to end.
Down '71 is one of my favorites with the courtroom skit at the beginning (and I usually hate skits on albums!) that sets the tone for the theme of the song then the song just rides...beat, lyrics, hook, sound effects ALL on point especially when Layzie is goin off about "Mack-10s, sawed off eruptions, got plenty ammunition No missing listen destruction I'm bustin" with the machine gun effects behind it all just feels right.
I'll throw up the tracklist below and star all my favorites of the album but this is a must have for any REAL HEAD. If you don't already own it and still purchase music legally then I have a link below where you can buy the digital download and I even get a few pennies for it.
